Research Visit 2025-2026

As a part of SMU and SCIS's mission to build an international research collaboration network, we welcome graduate students from overseas institutions to conduct research at our Singapore campus.

Our HCI group excels in research on accessibility, collaborative computing, human-agent interaction/collaboration, social robotics, and AR/VR. We have particular interest in projects that combine two or more of these areas. If you would like to work with our HCI faculty members, please email the following information to smuhci@smu.edu.sg, or directly to the faculty member that you want to work with:

  • Your research interests and, if applicable, any specific project you would like to work on during your visit.
  • CV in English with your publications

Other notes:

Eligibility: The following criterial apply:

  • Full-time graduate students pursuing Master or PhD degree.
  • The selected candidate must start their visit to SMU by 29 August 2025.
  • The selected candidate must visit SMU between 6 months to 7 months.
  • If selected, candidate must obtain a letter of recommendation from their home institution supervisor, written on official letterhead and including visit duration and supervisor's details.

Coverage: Visiting Research Students receive:

  • A monthly salary at the prevailing rate of our school.
  • Benefits include standard SMU employee coverage (including pre-employment medical checkup and workpass issuance fees)
  • Other basic facilities provided during the stay: a computer, SMU internet login and email access, a cubicle workspace, and a temporary access card.
  • Not covered: round-trip airfare and accommodation.

Selection Process: The selection consists of two steps: (1) Faculty-level selection—we review your application materials and match you with a suitable faculty member; (2) School-level selection—candidates undergo an additional review process due to limited positions across the school. Final results will be announced by May 16, 2025.
