We organized our first grouped progress report on 17 April (11 AM–3 PM, including a lunch break). Kudos to all the current and prospective PhD students for sharing their work.

The inaugural event went quite well. But some things could be improved. Note to ourselves:

  • Students should indicate their stage in the PhD program (year and term). Examples like "I'm in year 1, term 1" or "I'm planning to propose next term" help provide context. This information will enable faculty to provide more targeted feedback.
  • We should prepare a presentation template with dedicated research sections. Students can then describe their focus with statements like "I am exploring the topic of xxx." For first-year students who haven't started research yet, they can share their literature review progress or what they have learned recently.
  • We should be more strict about presentation duration in the future.
