At the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University, we are actively looking for research engineers / research scientists to work with. The Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will design, develop, and evaluate novel multi-modal human-agent interaction methods. S/he will use computer vision (CV) and natural language processing (NLP) technologies to design a natural and conversational method to facilitate interaction between a human and an autonomous agent. The candidate will be part of an active research team led by PI Prof. Jing Jiang and Co-PIs Prof. Archan Misra and Prof. Kotaro Hara. Though the research team will work closely together, Prof. Kotaro Hara will directly work with the candidate.
Candidate’s core job responsibilities are:
- Conducting an iterative user-centered design of CV- and NLP-based natural and conversational interaction methods
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the novel interaction methods through a series of user studies and quantitative/qualitative analyses
- Reporting the results of the evaluation and planning research directions
- (Optionally,) summarizing the research results and writing academic papers
Academic Qualifications
For research engineers,
- Minimum of Bachelor’s or Master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learning
- Minimum 1 year of relevant research experience in Human-Computer Interaction, computer vision, or natural language processing.
For research scientists,
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learning
- Minimum 1 year of relevant research experience in Human-Computer Interaction, computer vision, or natural language processing.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, C#, and Python will be required
- Prior experience in using Unity will be a plus
- Prior experience in developing multi-modal interaction methods will be a plus
- Demonstrated experience and know-how on conducting research, particularly in the area of Human-Computer Interaction, computer vision, or natural language processing
- Good analytical, technical and problem solving skills
- Self-motivated individual who can work independently and also collaboratively with team members
Duration
The job duration will be one year.
