The position is now closed.

24 Nov 2020

At the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University, we are actively looking for research engineers / research scientists to work with. If you are interested in the following position, please send your CV with education/employment history to Kotaro Hara (kotarohara@smu.edu.sg). In addition, you could send materials such as reference letters, previously published conference papers, link to open-source projects that you contributed, and blog posts that describe your mini-projects.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will design, develop, and evaluate human-in-the-loop technologies to collect geographical information about the urban and semi-urban environments. S/he will create an interactive system that uses computer vision to facilitate labeling of regions of urban infrastructures, such as sidewalks, trails, bike paths, and roads, in aerial images. The candidate will be part of an active research team led by Prof. Kotaro Hara and Prof. Ee-Peng Lim (PIs).

Candidate’s core job responsibilities are:

  1. Design and development of computer vision algorithms to perform image segmentation of urban infrastructures (e.g., sidewalks)
  2. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed computer vision algorithms
  3. Design and development of interactive user interfaces that use computer vision output to let a user efficiently improve the image segmentation quality
  4. Reporting the results of the evaluation and design/development progress to PIs.
  5. (For Research Scientists) Planning research directions with PIs, summarizing the research results and writing academic papers
