At the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University, we are actively looking for research engineers / research scientists to work with. Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will design, develop, and evaluate human-in-the-loop technologies to collect geographical information about the urban and semi-urban environments. S/he will create an interactive system that uses computer vision to facilitate labeling of regions of urban infrastructures, such as sidewalks, trails, bike paths, and roads, in aerial images. The candidate will be part of an active research team led by Prof. Kotaro Hara and Prof. Ee-Peng Lim (PIs).
Candidate’s core job responsibilities are:
Design and development of computer vision algorithms to perform image segmentation of urban infrastructures (e.g., sidewalks)Evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed computer vision algorithmsDesign and development of interactive user interfaces that use computer vision output to let a user efficiently improve the image segmentation qualityReporting the results of the evaluation and design/development progress to PIs.(For Research Scientists) Planning research directions with PIs, summarizing the research results and writing academic papers
Academic Qualifications
For research engineers,
Bachelor’s or Master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learningRelevant research or development experience in Human-Computer Interaction and computer vision is a plus
For research scientists,
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learningMinimum 1 year of relevant research experience in Human-Computer Interaction and computer.
Skills and Competencies
Proficiency in programming languages C/C++ and Python will be requiredPrior experience in developing computer vision algorithms, especially image segmentation algorithms, is a plusPrior experience in working with aerial images or GIS data is a plusSelf-motivated individual who can work independently and also collaboratively with team members(Optional) Demonstrated experience and know-how on conducting research, particularly in the area of Human-Computer Interaction and/or computer vision
Duration
The job duration will be one year.
