The Meetup

The second annual Singapore HCI Meetup took place on 26 Apr, 2024 at NUS SDE3. The event brought together 85 members of the Human-Computer Interaction community from across Singapore; SMU was represented by 18 of us! The event featured a full day of activities including paper presentations, poster sessions, and interactive demos. Attendees explored a diverse range of topics from electronic-acrylic composites for interactive design to AI-assisted writing tools and the role of generative AI in sound design. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in breakout discussions about the local HCI landscape and connect with fellow researchers and professionals for future collaborations. This event was supported by NUS Smart Systems Institute, NUS CUTE Center, and SMU SCIS 💰🍽️  And special thanks to this year’s organizer, Clement Zheng from NUS!

The presentation sessions at the Singapore HCI Meetup 2024 were a highlight of the event, showcasing our research and ideas in the field. A few members from SMU shared their work:

  • Prof. Lee Min Hun et al., Towards Human-AI Collaborative Systems for Physical Stroke Rehabilitation Practices
  • Zhang Tianyi et al., How People Prompt to Create Interactive VR Scenes
  • Alexander Zhang et al., Visualization Recommendation Reasoning

We hope the sessions provided good food-for-thoughts to initiate exploration and discussion, and maybe the conversation on future work and collaborations!

The poster and demo session at the meetup offered attendees to have face-to-face conversation on work-in-progress research and experience firsthand tangible technologies. These posters and demos not only illustrated the practical applications of HCI research but also sparked discussions on the potential and future directions of interactive technologies.

SMU represented the following posters:

  • Yuki Onishi et al., Anesth-on-the-Go: Designing Portable Game-based Anesthetic Simulator for Education
  • Smitha Sheshadri et al., On BVI Individuals’ Situation Awareness in Indoor Spaces: A Formative Study
  • Neil Chulpongsatorn et al., Embodied AI in Guidance Interface
  • Alexander Ivanov et al., ControlChat
  • Rosiana Natalie et al., Creating and Delivering Videos' Audio Descriptions for Blind People
